In the following questions, you will find answers about Smart Living, KNX, lighting design, multimedia, audio, network technology, building automation and working with BERLONIA.

1. SMART LIVING, ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS & KNX
What does BERLONIA do?

BERLONIA plans, designs and integrates intelligent spatial concepts that combine Smart Living, Light Design and Media Solutions. This includes KNX programming, building automation, lighting control, visualization, multimedia, audio, network infrastructure and intuitive control concepts.

BERLONIA connects technical systems in a way that makes everyday life feel simple, natural and beautifully coordinated.

What does Smart Living mean?

Smart Living describes intelligent living and working environments in which technology does not take center stage, but quietly supports everyday life. Lighting, shading, heating, climate, music, security, scenes and controls are thoughtfully connected.

The goal is not to install as much technology as possible, but to create more comfort, a better atmosphere and a more natural way of interacting with the spaces around us.

A Smart Home is a home in which technical functions are automated, connected or centrally controlled. This can include lighting, blinds, heating, climate, security, music, access control, visualization and scene control.

A good Smart Home reduces complexity. It should not make life more complicated — it should make it easier.

What is the difference between Smart Home, Smart Living and Smart Building?

Smart Home usually refers to an intelligent private home.

Smart Living goes further. It describes the connection between technology, comfort, atmosphere, light, sound and quality of life.

Smart Building refers to larger intelligent buildings, such as offices, hotels, commercial properties, public buildings or residential developments.

BERLONIA works at the intersection of these fields — from high-end private living spaces to intelligent big buildings.

Why should a home be intelligent?

An intelligent home can improve comfort, security, energy efficiency and quality of life. Lighting scenes, shading, temperature, music and room settings can be adapted to daily routines, situations and personal preferences.

A truly smart home thinks ahead — without forcing itself into the foreground.

Does BERLONIA offer KNX programming?

Yes. BERLONIA offers professional KNX programming and supports projects through planning, structuring, parameterization, commissioning, visualization, scenes, logic functions and the optimization of existing KNX installations.

BERLONIA can support new KNX projects as well as analyze, improve or take over existing systems.

Can BERLONIA take over existing KNX projects?

Yes. BERLONIA can review, structure, optimize or continue existing KNX projects. This is especially useful when installations have been programmed in an unclear way, when functions are missing, when the controls are not intuitive or when the system needs to be expanded.

Can I program my KNX home myself?

In principle, KNX is an open and professional system. A technically skilled user may be able to understand or adjust simple functions. However, clean planning, a reliable structure, long-term maintainability and complex functions require experience with ETS, KNX topologies, group addresses, logic functions, scenes and cross-trade planning.

Good KNX programming determines whether a Smart Home truly feels pleasant and intuitive later on.

Does BERLONIA also carry out electrical installations?

BERLONIA is not a conventional electrical installation company. The actual electrical installation is usually carried out by an electrical contractor or qualified specialist company.

Depending on the project, BERLONIA takes care of planning, concept development, system integration, KNX programming, lighting control, visualization, multimedia, network structure and the technical coordination with the executing trades.

Does BERLONIA work with electrical contractors?

Yes. BERLONIA works with electrical contractors, KNX specialists and project partners. Depending on the project, BERLONIA can act as a specialized partner in the background or be directly involved in the project.

Typical tasks include KNX programming, commissioning, visualization, lighting control, scene logic, fault analysis, control concepts and technical project support.

What is a system integrator?

A system integrator connects different technical systems into one coherent overall solution. In buildings, this can mean bringing together lighting, shading, heating, climate, audio, video, network technology, visualization and control systems.

The system integrator ensures that not only the individual components work, but that the entire building can be operated logically, intuitively and reliably.

Is BERLONIA something like a technology architect?

Yes, this term describes BERLONIA’s work very well. BERLONIA does not think of technical systems in isolation, but in relation to space, architecture, use, atmosphere and everyday life.

This creates a technical structure that does not visually dominate, but supports architecture and enhances the spatial experience.

2. LIGHT DESIGN, ATMOSPHERE & ARCHITECTURE
Does BERLONIA also design lighting concepts?

Yes. BERLONIA designs lighting concepts for living spaces, work areas, outdoor spaces, hallways, kitchens, bathrooms, media rooms, commercial spaces and special architectural projects.

The focus is not only on brightness, but on atmosphere, orientation, accentuation and spatial effect.

What does Light Design mean at BERLONIA?

For BERLONIA, Light Design means the conscious shaping of light within a space. Light can emphasize architecture, define zones, highlight materials, create moods and transform the character of a room.

Good light is not only technically correct — it is emotionally tangible.

Why is light so important for architecture?

Light determines how a space is perceived. It can make rooms feel larger, warmer, calmer, more refined or more alive.

Architecture is not created only through walls, furniture and materials, but also through the way light reveals and enhances these elements.

What is the difference between lighting and Light Design?

Lighting makes sure a room is bright enough.

Light Design shapes how a room feels.

This includes general lighting, accent lighting, indirect lighting, decorative lighting, functional lighting, color temperature, dimming, scenes and the integration into Smart Living systems.

Can lighting be controlled via KNX or DALI?

Yes. Lighting can be intelligently controlled via KNX, DALI or other systems. This allows lighting scenes, dimming ranges, presence functions, time-based settings and intuitive control concepts to be created.

Lighting becomes especially powerful when planning, control and user experience are considered together from the very beginning.

Does BERLONIA also work for architects and interior designers?

Yes. BERLONIA supports architects and interior designers in integrating Smart Living, Light Design and Multimedia into refined spatial concepts.

The aim is to integrate technology in a way that supports the design — without disturbing it.

3. MEDIA SOLUTIONS, MULTIMEDIA & SOUND
Does BERLONIA also offer audio, multiroom and multimedia solutions?

Yes. BERLONIA plans and integrates audio, multiroom and multimedia solutions for homes, offices, hotels, conference rooms, home cinemas, lounges and special spatial concepts.

This includes music zones, speaker integration, media control, streaming, TV and projection solutions, home cinema, digital signage and intuitive control concepts.

What does Media Solutions mean at BERLONIA?

Media Solutions describes the integration of sound, image, media and control into a coherent spatial concept. Media technology should not feel overloaded or visually dominant, but elegant, intuitive and naturally suited to the space.

Sound, image and control are understood as part of the atmosphere.

Does BERLONIA plan invisible speakers?

Yes. Invisible or discreetly integrated speakers can be a very elegant solution when sound should be experienced in a room without visible technology taking over the design.

BERLONIA considers room design, sound quality, installation positions, use and control together.

Does BERLONIA also design home cinema solutions?

Yes. BERLONIA can conceptually support home cinema and media rooms. This includes image, sound, lighting scenes, control, basic acoustic considerations, media control and integration into a Smart Living system.

A good home cinema is not just technology — it is an experience.

What is digital signage?

Digital signage refers to digital information and display systems, such as screens in companies, hotels, reception areas, conference zones, shops or public spaces.

BERLONIA can integrate such systems into a larger media and control concept.

What about network technology?

A stable network is the foundation of modern buildings. Many Smart Living, multimedia, audio, video and control systems depend on a reliable network structure.

BERLONIA considers network technology as an important part of the overall concept and coordinates it with the appropriate specialist partners depending on the project.

Does BERLONIA also plan WiFi / WLAN?

Yes. BERLONIA can include WiFi and network concepts in the planning process. Especially in larger homes, offices, hotels or more complex buildings, careful WiFi planning is essential.

Good WiFi does not happen by accident. It requires well-positioned access points, structured cabling, clean network planning and reliable technical implementation.
